Facebook + Hashtags

What exactly are hashtags? We all know them as the number sign (#) but what relevance are they to the Social Media World? You would have seen a lot of people using them on Social Media Networks like Twitter or Instagram. For example, a picture of a puppy will have the words #dogs, #puppy or #cute. What exactly does that do?

Hashtags turn words into clickable links in your post. As mentioned before, if a picture of a puppy is hashtagged with #dogs, everyone who hashtagged the word 'dogs' will see a feed of images or posts related to it.

For a long time, Facebook didn't bring out hashtagging, while Twitter, Instagram and Google+ are all benefiting from this nifty little feature. But now the wait is over... Facebook has FINALLY brought out hashtags! And here is how you can use it!

To make a hashtag, write # (the number sign) along with a topic. It's that simple! Here's an example we've used on our Facebook page.

As you can see here, we've hashtagged #giftboxes, #hampers and #goldcoast. Which means that on the Facebook search bar, everyone who search for "giftboxes" will have this come up on their feed. This is handy because now, what you share on Twitter or Instagram with hashtags will also be applicable on Facebook.

Note that your post will only be displayed on the hashtag feed if your privacy setting is set to public, otherwise it can only be viewed by your friends.

We hope that this article has been useful for you. Happy Hashtagging :)
